The Business Development Canvas is an extension of the Brand Development Canvas. The basic structure remains the same,\nbut the title might initially seem ill-suited for common-good-oriented non-profit projects \u2013 \u201cBusiness Case\u201d (in German:\nGesch\u00e4ftsmodell) sounds very commercial. Yet, doesn\u2019t every organization strive to be sustainable? That is, ensuring you don\u2019t\nrun out of energy or motivation because you can\u2019t adequately fund your efforts, leading to burnout and potential failure?\nEspecially good offerings should remain \u201cin business\u201d \u2013 otherwise, it\u2019s impossible to fulfill your sustainability promise.\nThe message of this canvas applies to all projects that aim to achieve concrete value for others, not as an end in themselves, but\nin a sustainable manner. Make sure you can keep your promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The core logic and terms are already familiar to you. What\u2019s new in this canvas is the specific focus on how you can consistently\ndeliver your offering\/product to your target group. It\u2019s about the viability of your organization. How resilient is it? This is the\nfundamental idea of a business model or business case: ensuring you have enough resources (and thus the stamina) to address the\nvarious prerequisites so your offering can reliably achieve its transformative impact.

Is your operating model sustainable?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n


This delivery truck \u2013 loaded with your amazing offerings \u2013 needs to reliably reach your target audience. Under \u201cWe,\u201d note\neverything that strengthens you: your team (How is it composed?), your strengths (What are you particularly good at?), and your\nclaim (What is your core promise?). Under \u201cYou,\u201d try to put yourself in your target group\u2019s shoes (Who are they? What is their\nimmediate need? What might be the underlying desires? Why should your customers and partners repeatedly choose you?).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bridge is supported by four pillars: two \u201chard\u201d production factors \u2013 rules (legal form, regulations, guidelines,\nstandards, etc.) and finances (for personnel, technology, spaces, suppliers, etc.) \u2013 as well as two \u201csoft\u201d factors: your\norganizational culture (internal and external interactions) and reputation (among customers, partners, and the public).\nIf these pillars are not robust, your business case will collapse \u2013 and with it, the momentum of a well-functioning, selfsustaining,\nand nurturing collaboration, meaning an organizationally sustainable partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
