The Boarding Ticket can be filled out by participants to introduce themselves, their project, and their expectations. If multiple people from the same project are attending, it is recommended that each person fills out their own ticket. This can already lead to interesting insights, such as when individuals from the same project note differing visions. The tickets can also be displayed and later used during the transfer phase – the conclusion of the event – to reflect and draw personal lessons. If possible, attach a photo of the respective participant next to their ticket. This creates an easy reference to associate names with faces and projects. For fixed seating arrangements, tickets can be displayed according to the seating order, eliminating the need for name tags.
The fields on the Boarding Ticket should be self-explanatory. A few tips:
- Under Project/Initiative, participants representing an organization can list the organization along with their role or function within it.
- Under Destination/Goal, references can be made to relevant SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Alternatively, participants can list the values that matter most to them and should guide implementation.
- For Vision or Target Photo, participants are encouraged to be creative and illustrative, sketching or writing out their vision.
- Under Take-Off, participants can note what their project – or they personally – need to move closer to their vision or how the event might help them achieve this and what they expect from it.
In addition to Boarding Tickets, creating sociograms has proven to be an effective way to start an event. For this activity, participants position themselves in the room according to the facilitator’s questions and prompts. For example, participants can move around based on the question, “Where are you from?” on an imaginary map or along a scale of 0 to 10 for questions like “Do you prefer theory or practice?”
